Ontario Provincial Police say a female pedestrian was struck and killed by a transport truck on Highway 401 in east-end Toronto, forcing a closure of all westbound lanes in the area.
Paramedics say the person was pronounced dead at the scene at around 4:15 a.m. on the express lane just west of Brimley Road.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the transport truck remained at the scene.
Police said they have spoken to witnesses and the pedestrian was seen in the area prior to the collision.
The age and identity of the deceased have not been released.
The closure is expected to cause major traffic issues as Toronto-bound commuters are squeezed into the collector lanes through much of the morning rush hour.
Schmidt said the westbound lanes are expected to reopen by 9 a.m.
