Thomas Harpula, 29, has been charged with the second-degree murder of his father, Janusz (John) Harpula, 60, following a Dec. 20 stabbing incident in upper Stoney Creek. Police responded to 134 Highland Rd. W. shortly before noon to investigate a 911 call for “family trouble.” Officers found a man in the doorway of the home, with multiple stab wounds. Energy efficiency funding for Hagersville hospital

West Haldimand General Hospital has received $460,000 from the Ontario government’s Hospital Energy Efficiency Program. The program is funded through the Climate Change Action Plan (cap-and-trade tax) designated to improve energy efficiency at Ontario hospitals. The hospital applied for and was granted to undertake three projects to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Stoney Creek Sabres Bantam BB hockey team recently donated $250 to the Stoney Creek Community Food Bank. Players raised all of the money themselves by bagging groceries at Fortinos, including the Fiesta Mall location in November. The team decided to donate to a local charity in order to give back to the community that has been so supportive of Stoney Creek girls hockey.
